A letter from the Chancellor of the University of London

Group of graduates throwing caps in the air

Today is a significant milestone in both your academic and personal journey: your graduation from the University of London, and the culmination of years of hard work. As Chancellor of the University of London, I extend my congratulations on your achievement and offer my best wishes to everyone celebrating, whether in London or at home. This is a special occasion for you and your loved ones, who have supported you throughout this journey.

For almost 200 years, the University of London has been shaped by students like you. Your contributions to academic life and beyond have helped define our legacy and make our institution truly exceptional. Reaching this point is a testament to your commitment to learning, as well as your resilience and determination. The University and those who have accompanied you on your academic journey celebrate with you because your achievements fulfil what we feel the University of London’s role to be.

Many of you have balanced your studies with multiple roles – whether as caregivers, parents, or professionals – and you have all persevered through challenging times. Whether you studied independently or at one of our teaching centres, you have gained invaluable skills and knowledge. A University of London degree is valued around the world, and I have no doubt that yours will equip you for success as you embark on new ventures.

As you close this chapter and begin the next, I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours. You are now part of a lifelong community, and I encourage you to stay connected through the University of London alumni network.

Once again, congratulations on your well-earned success.
